Although we cannot conduct newspaper research on behalf of patrons, we are able to share with you many of our resources that could be useful in your research. The guide created by our librarians about Newspapers at the UGA Libraries is a great place to start.
The Georgia Historic Newspapers Project website allows you to browse newspaper archives online and for free, and you can search by region, keyword, and date. I highly recommend this service, and issues of historic newspapers are added on a regular basis.
Before you make your trip to UGA, you can also check what newspapers on microfiche are available in the Libraries by using the Unified Newspapers Database, which allows you to search what newspapers we own on microfilm or microfiche by region, city, and year.
The Heritage Room of the Athens-Clarke County Public Library is able to perform some research on your behalf for an hourly fee. If you have any questions about this service, you can call them 706-613-3650 ext 350 or email them at email@example.com.
Lastly, if your research needs are more comprehensive than the services listed above, you may require the services of an Independent Researcher for Hire or a Professional Genealogist. Listed below are a few organizations that might be able to assist you with your research:
Georgia Historical Society
Georgia Genealogical Society
